In this insanely competitive era of Internet Marketing if can be tempting to just throw your hands in the air and stick with what you know, but…

Once you’ve caught a glimpse of what is really possible online – it’s a pretty hard dream to shake, yeah?

But how do you really stand out from the rest and is there any space left for people to get involved in areas like Freelance design, product creation or anything else online.

We’ve got more access to training, resources and tools now than ever before which is a GREAT thing, but – it doesn’t necessarily mean that people are using them.

In fact – such a small handful of people will take action on even the simplest of money making strategies and follow it all the way to completion that it’s honestly laughable. (in a sad, slap your forehead kind of way).

Drilling your idea down into something that you can use to brand yourself, your business and help you find that target audience that will happily throw money at you can take a bit of thinking, but trust me – it’s worth it.

You see, there is a space online waiting to be filled by YOU – you just need to find it.

Look at it this way:

competition crushing

If you were looking to have your kitchen remodelled, and you had to choose between a general contractor who had some decent samples of kitchen remodels spread amongst a huge portfolio of work that includes many other types of remodels, or a contractor that specialised in kitchen remodels and had an impressive portfolio that featured almost exclusively kitchens, which would you be more likely to choose?

Most people prefer to choose someone who specialises in what they are paying for.

It’s the same reason people go to a specialist when they have an illness—because there’s an understanding that this specialist will be more knowledgeable about their condition than their local GP.

This is how you can set yourself apart from all of the other freelancers, or marketers out there who are trying to be all things to all people.

Don’t worry about all those other guys. They’re of no real consequence to you. When you create a great portfolio that shows your experience and ability in EXACTLY what your potential clients are looking for, you will quickly realize that you don’t need to chase every single client out there.

Instead, go after those clients who are looking for what you do best!

This might take a bit of experimenting to find YOUR thing, in the design space it might be logo design that you really love, or maybe banners – or maybe you love putting together report covers or social media images.

Here is a short list of things that you might want to focus on – please post in comments below if you can think of any I should add in there too!

  • eBook covers
  • Advertising banners
  • Social media graphics
  • Logos
  • Magazine layouts
  • Presentation slides
  • Sales page graphics
  • Photo editing

Whatever it turns out to be, find it and do it the best that you can.

Another thing that might help too, is to check your browser history (no judgements!!! haha) and see, what are you spending a chunk of your time looking at/doing/learning/reading/watching?  Is there a way to turn that interest into something you could make YOURS – to stand out from the rest?

So, over to you!
