Best Shopify apps

One of the great things about Shopify is the size and quality of the app store, which allows you to add new functionality to your store using apps developed by third parties. Take a look at which we put in our top 50 best Shopify apps below.

The apps below are not listed in order of brilliance, but rather separated into seven different categories. You can jump to each category by clicking on these links:

Without further ado, here are the 50 best Shopify apps:

Marketing1. Mailchimp

Mailchimp allows you to send out targeted email campaigns based on your customers' buying behaviour. It can also be used to send out scheduled newsletters to those signed up to your mailing list.

2. LoyaltyLion

LoyaltyLion is one of the best apps on the market for constructing loyalty schemes for your customers. It can be used to drive customers back to your site, make repeat purchases, refer their friends and family, ultimately increasing your revenue.

3. Back in Stock

Don't just focus on gaining new traffic to your site – make sure you also capitalise on existing traffic. Back in Stock ensures that if an item is sold out, you don't necessarily lose the sale altogether. It adds a feature to your shop where customers can opt to be notified when the item they wanted comes back in stock. So rather than just forgetting about it the following day, they actually come back to complete the sale they originally intended to. This is the inventory app that we use when making websites.

4. Product Upsell

Product Upsell gives you the opportunity to make last minute sales to your customers when they are approaching the checkout, with relevant add-ons and recommended products strategically placed to encourage purchasing.

5. Abandon Aid

For whatever reason, customers will sometimes abandon their carts. It's a fact of life, and a few years ago was something you unfortunately had to just accept. Now, Abandon Aid allows you to target any customers that have abandoned their carts, keeping the contents of it intact, ready for the customer to complete their purchase.

6. Email Pirate

Email Pirate is an app that you can use to capture more of your visitors' email addresses. With the opt-in windows configured by Email Pirate, you can capture their details and add them to your database, ready to be used in your email newsletter or any other sendout you have established.

7. Emma

Yes, Emma is another email marketing app. But it’s also one of the best. With Emma, you can sync your existing customer data and also let it collate new customer data as people use your site. It can then use this information to send out customised and automated emails based on shopping activity.

8. Shopify Wishlist

Wishlists are very popular with customers, as it gives them the opportunity to bookmark all of their favourite items in a central location. However, there are fewer customers that actually shop from their wishlists. Shopify Wishlist helps to combat this by seamlessly integrating a wishlist into your store, so that customers can save items they will want to purcahse at a later date. Adding a wishlist is a simple change that could help you effortlessly increase your sales and conversions.

9. Product Reviews

Product Reviews is a free app that allows you to have product reviews from customers on your product pages. This has two main benefits: whenever a customer leaves a review, it increases engagement with your business, and positive reviews are likely to encourage sales. Testimonials for your products that haven’t come from you will help to get rid of that ‘sales pitch’ tone. Another benefit of Product Reviews is that it is SEO-friendly, letting you add your review scores to your Google search results.

However, do note that this app is free because it is far more basic than its competitors, such as Yotpo.

10. SEO Manager

As a Shopify store owner, you will know all too well that driving traffic to the site is very important. One of the best ways to do this is by ranking highly on Google. This, of course, is easier said than done. Enter SEO manager. The app makes it really easy for store owners to understand and implement SEO that will bring reward. They provide a step by step guide through the app and offer a comprehensive document to help you understand SEO.

11. Lock Stock Alert

Lock Stock Alert is another inventory app. If you are running low on certain stock this app saves you time by pinpointing all items that dip below a certain stock level and putting them on a low stock list. This will help you stay credible as a merchant so customers don't go elsewhere after realising an item is out of stock.

12. Gift Reggie

Gift Reggie is a wish list app that automatically takes on the look and feel of your store's design, which gives the wish list an appearance totally in keeping with your brand. One reason that Gift Reggie stands out as a great application for creating wish lists is the fact that it is completely white label, meaning that once you have designed your wish list it shows no sign that Gift Reggie was ever used.

13. Yotpo

The aim of Yotpo is to get more customers to leave product and service reviews on your site. Through this you can increase your sales and begin to build a community of committed and loyal customers. Yotpo sends an email to your customers asking for a review, and is the only app that allows them to leave the review without leaving their email dropbox. While not everyone will have the time, Yotpo claims that 6-10% of your customers will take the time to leave a review. Yotpo is far more advanced than Shopify's free reviews app, Product Reviews, which doesn't have any emailing features or let you respond to the reviews. If you are serious about increasing your sales through a product reviews app, Yotpo's fee is certainly worth it for all the added functionality you receive.

14. LeadDyno

Affiliate marketing is the process of having other people market your products in return for a percentage of sales that you generate as a result of their efforts. While you would normally have to go through an affiliate agency to do something like this, the LeadDyno app allows you to establish an affiliate system within minutes.

15. Sellout

Sellout, formerly Concierge, is a marketing app that automatically sends your products to appropriate customers in your database. The system knows when to send emails, how often to send them, and what content to include, so you don’t have to waste time answering these questions. It has a unique sales algorithm that makes your life much easier.

Social Media16. Happy Ending

Once your customer has completed their order, they should be redirected to a 'Thank You' page. On this, e-tailers normally confirm the order and thank the customer for shopping with them, but what is often left out is the reinforcement of your business's social presence. If the visitor has converted and made a purchase, they may also be interested in keeping up to date with the business via social media, so Happy Ending makes your 'Thank You' page more social by including buttons for customers to like your Facebook page, Tweet about their purchase, share it on Pinterest and subscribe to your newsletter.

17. Instagration

A portmanteau of Instagram and integration, Instagration is a fantastic app to integrate your instagram feed with your shop. Obviously not your personal feed, but rather an Instagram profile for your brand that can be used to provide a visual representation of it, as well as photographic updates.

18. Twitify

Twitify is used by many shop owners that want to seamlessly embed tweets onto pages of their shop. Installing it does require some knowledge of HTML, so Twitify developers will be happy to do it for you if you don’t know how to do this. They will also customise the system to fit the tone of your site.

19. Foursixty

If you are an avid user of social media for business, but struggle to make money from it, then Foursixty is the app that you need. It turns your brand, and customer produced content, into a shoppable gallery on your online shop. So, for example, you could upload pictures of your customers wearing your garments, and site visitors could click on these images to buy the pictured clothes.

20. Facebook

With Facebook Shop you can sell products directly on your Facebook Page, and customers can checkout quickly without leaving Facebook on desktop or mobile.

21. SocialShopWave

SocialShopWave provides an entire suite of social apps that you can implement on your shop to boost your traffic, build customer trust, and establish a community of shoppers. Apps in the suite include social login, social sharing, social media feeds, reviews, personalised shopping, and much more.

22. Pinterest

With Buyable Pins you can sell products directly on Pinterest, and your customers can checkout without leaving Pinterest. Pinners can shop Buyable Pins on their iOS and Android mobile devices using the Pinterest App. Buyable Pins generate in search and can be saved for later, repinned and shared on boards same as Rich Pins, and are enabled for purchase.

Optimisation23. Nosto

Nosto is by far the best application for personalisation on the Shopify App Store. We recommend it to a lot of our clients, and it has a wealth of fantastic features. If you’ve ever seen a ‘people who bought this also bought’ or ‘you may also like’ section on a product page, that is just one of the levels of personalisation that Nosto can offer. Nosto claims that the average results it achieves for its users is a 65% increase in conversion rate and a 25% increase in average order value (AOV). Sound too good to be true? Well, Nosto will only charge you to use the app once you gain results – you only pay for the added value.

24. Lucky Orange

Feel like your site has optimisation issues? Lucky Orange will not only provide you with recordings of real users using your site, showing you why they did not convert, but also produce a ‘heat map’ that shows how people click, move and scroll all the pages on your site.

25. Exit Offers

Exit Offers allows to to draw leaving customers back into your site with enticing offers and promotions. It also gives customers special offers if they are going to abandon their carts. Examples of exit offers you can implement are a product discount or free shipping. While it is a paid app, Exit Offers does offer a free trial, and claims that most users make enough money from the app during the trial period to pay for it for a year.

26. Cross-Sell

Cross-Sell is a third party app for Shopify, it allows store owners to handpick a unique set of related items for each product in their store. The related items can be placed anywhere on the product page, but the idea is to allow them to appear in a place that encourages additional purchases. The app also caters for a separate set of Cross-Sell items to appear on the cart/basket page to encourage additional purchases just prior to checkout.

27. Coupon Pop

Coupon Pop enables you to create a promotion – such as a discount, sale, free shipping, etc. – that will pop up to your site’s visitors, asking them to follow you on any of the social networks of your choosing, or to sign up to your mailing list, in exchange for the deal. It has an easy setup, so you can get your promotions out within minutes.

28. Persistent Cart

The aim of Persistent Cart is to reduce the amount of customers that abandon their carts, and thus increase your shop’s revenue. A persistent cart is a cart that remains for the user, even after they have closed their browser and return to the shop at a later date. Rather than losing the contents of their cart, everything is waiting for them when they return, ready to be purchased. The app runs in the background, so once you set it up, it will do all the work for you.

29. Plug in SEO

Feel like you have issues with search engine optimisation on your site? You’re not alone. That’s why Plug in SEO was developed. It is a totally free app, and functions as an on page SEO checker. It analyses your homepage and sees what could possibly be improved in terms of SEO. Checks are run regularly and automatically, quite like a virus scanner, so you don’t need to worry about maintaining the app.

30. Checkout hero

Checkout Hero helps you incentivise customers to complete their checkout by sharing their cart on social media in return for a discount, free shipping or a free gift. Encourage customers to share via Facebook or Twitter.

Analytics31. KISSmetrics

KISSmetrics is one of the most widely-used analytics apps on the Shopify App Store. The app accurately outlines your CLV (customer lifetime value) by tracking a visitor’s behaviour when using your site, all the way from first landing on your site to making a purchase, or even claiming a refund. With the app, you can gain a good understanding of how long it takes your customers to make repeat orders, so you know exactly when to send an effective follow up email, rather than just guessing.

32. SumAll

SumAll is a free analytics app that lets you see all of your shop’s data in one place, in a single-view window. You are emailed daily with reports containing the most important pieces of data that have been recorded, with all of the irrelevant data being left out, so you don’t have to spend ages finding the essential stuff. You can also use SumAll to connect all your e-commerce, email marketing and social data in one place.

33. Xporter Data Export Tool

Xporter Data Export Tool is a web-based solution that enables you to export your store's data in a customizable spreadsheet (and now XML as well!) format.

Vantage helps you see the trends of what is happening in your store and then suggest actions you can take that will make a big difference to your success. It also helps you to execute the most effective strategies with ease.

35. WhatShare

WhatShare is the easiest way to include a WhatsApp share button in your storefront, and it is highly customizable through the theme editor, so no coding skills are needed.

OrderCup lets you Print USPS, FedEx, UPS, DHL and Canada Post shipping labels as a batch or one by one. It automatically updates your Shopify orders with shipping information, triggers Shopify to send "your order has shipped, here's your tracking info" emails to your customers, and can also automatically close the order in Shopify.

39. Shippo

Another label printing app, Shippo lets you print your shipping labels with one click. It integrates your Shopify orders and gives you a very easy system to organise your shipping logistics. All you have to do is enter the dimensions of the parcel, the pickup date, service type and preferred carrier and you will have your label printed within seconds.

40. ShipStation

ShipStation’s goal is straightforward: to simplify the shipping process for online merchants. They combine different features into their app, such as order processing, production of shipping labels, and customer communication in an easy to use, web-based interface. The app integrates directly with major carriers and online platforms. Because it is a web-based solution, there is no software to install, and it is compatible with both PC and Mac.

Customer Service41. Returns Manager

Returns Manager views returns as things that are not just something every store should handle, but also an extremely important marketing tool. That’s why they have created an app that allows Shopify merchants to create & manage returns in a professional yet simple way. Customer accounts are not even required for them to request and manage their returns.

42. Olark

Olark is one of the best live chat applications available on the Shopify App Store. Olark live chat and the Olark CartSaver feature allow you to talk directly with customers at the exact moment when they are browsing your Shopify store, giving you the perfect opportunity to encourage a conversion. You can watch your customers fill their shopping carts, talk directly with customers before they abandon their carts and help them find exactly what they need to minimise obstacles for them. Olark states that CartSaver users sell more than regular Shopify merchants and leave a lasting impression on their customers, who come back, on average, 3 times more often.

Tools43. Infinite Options

Infinite Options allows you to add personalization, engraving or monogramming to any product and create unlimited product options for any product configurations. Let shoppers personalize products with drop-down menus, text and number inputs, checkboxes and radios.

44. Power Tools

Power Tools basically seeks to offer all the features that aren’t built-in to Shopify that people often wish were. An example of this is a simple navigation menu that allows your customers to filter their search based on attributes of your products, such as size, colour, price and brand. This type of navigation is used by the most popular e-commerce giants, such as Amazon and eBay, and is now made available to small businesses.

45. Langify

While Shopify does not offer much support for multilingual shopfronts, Langify seeks to change this. Langify realised that your customers hail from all around the world, and would prefer your store to be available in their mothertongue. It has a myriad of features, such as automatic language detection, where the customer is automatically directed to a translated version of your shopfront based on their IP address, and customisable language switcher, where customers can choose their preferred language manually.

46. Order Printer Templates

Order Printer Templates allows you to create customised and memorable invoice and packing slip designs without having to write or edit a line of code. After that, you are free to print as many as you want without any ongoing costs to you. The app allows you to customise your printer templates, so it is branded and becomes an extension of your business, rather than an entity separate from it.

47. Zapier

Zapier provides its users with a simple drag-and-drop interface, so they can integrate Shopify with dozens of other web services such as MailChimp, HipChat and SalesForce. It is simple to set up and you don't have to mess with any complicated APIs or writing any code at any level. Zapier fully automates the integration between Shopify and dozens of external third-party applications.

Accounting48. ZapStitch

E-tailers and accountants spend, on average, 100 hours/month doing accounting, which distracts their focus on customer support and sales/marketing. Instead of letting this ruin your business, ZapStitch solves that problem by integrating Shopify with two of the world's best accounting softwares – QuickBooks Online and Xero. ZapStitch is the highest ranked and reviewed accounting app in the Shopify App Store, with 50 reviews all being 5-stars. Its cost ranges from $19 – $99 a month, depending on how many orders you process, though you can save $120 on any price plan by paying annually rather than monthly.

49. Xero

Sync your Shopify orders to your Xero account and enjoy seamless financial reporting with just a couple of clicks.

50. CarryTheOne

Xero is one of the most popular online accounting solutions for e-tailers, however Xero hasn't designed their own integration with the Shopify platform. This is where CarryTheOne comes in. Instead of using countless spreadsheets, copying and pasting, losing track of what you've done and having to do everything manually, CarryTheOne's integration service allows you to import all your orders into Xero as invoices, as well as automatically create payments and inventory items. A big selling point for CarryTheOne's integration app is how much time you can save – they boast that their customers save an average of 10 hours per month. It's $31.99/month, and offers a free 30 day trial.
