We’re always discovering new ways to get more traffic to your sites and offers. This is one that was brought to my attention recently that works REALLY well, so I thought I’d take the time to write it down and show you how to start seeing real targeted traffic, using a method that anyone can do, in any niche – for free.
Now, you might be asking yourself “Why is this such a powerful, high-converting traffic strategy?” It’s really simple, so let me break it down.
1. You are engaging with content creators in your niche.
They are different than the average subscriber. Not only are they interested in the topic. They are actively involved in it. They write about it. They spend money to promote their blog.
2. You get to see these exact types of people at niche specific networking events. They also spend their time, money and energy diving deep into their interest because it fascinates them. It keeps them awake at night. It’s something they are highly passionate about.
Why This Method Is Actually Better Than Paid Traffic..
Let’s get super specific here. With paid ads you can get super targeted.
However, no matter how deep you research you are counting on your analytics to find your perfect audience.
You have to test. Get traffic. Check stats.
Let’s say you start out and you are spending $1 per click on paid ads.
You get 50 clicks per day.
That $50 per day x 30 days = $1,500 per month.
That’s a lot of money and it’s actually low to start testing ads.
Then, you have to start digging into it. Not just dog owners for example. If you are doing paid ads, then you have to dig into income, marital status, kids, and all these weird demographics to find the perfect match for your audience. Sound complicated?
It certainly can be. It can also get stupidly expensive.
That’s why I like to cut right to the chase.
I want to go after only people that are in my target market.
That will subscribe to my blog.
That will convert to leads.
Those leads will convert to sales.
Those sales mean profits. That is good business.
So, if you are just starting out, and you are trying to find a way to get noticed, fill the pipeline and really move the meter in your business this simple 5 step strategy is the easy to execute and it won’t cost you a dime to get started.
4 Steps To Free Targeted Traffic To Your Blog Everyday
Someone told me about this strategy a few months ago. They contacted our support desk – suggesting that there must be a way to automate it (i.e. “Cindy… please make us a plugin! I want it!”), but I didn’t build it – we’ve been creating a few other things and our devs didn’t have the time.
So, someone else did (darn it… lol). Traffic Zion released their CLOUD version of this software just now which does this process automatically WITHOUT the need for a blog – so if you want to save time and just hit a few buttons and let the software do the manual work, then check it out.
BUT… the software is just an alternative. You CAN do this yourself if you want. It’s free, it doesn’t take too much of your time and is super step by step. The software just makes it faster and allows you to increase that traffic, removing the manual process.
Whatever you’re doing, whether it’s with the software – or doing it manually… you should give this a go – it’s one of the easiest traffic methods I’ve come across in a long time! So let’s dive in!
STEP 1: Get a WordPress Account
This is different to hosting your own blog (we’ll still be doing that), but you’ll need to have a WordPress.com account at their site.
If you don’t have one – bro, do you even blog? For real. (haha)
It’s free (don’t take them up on the paid options, you don’t need it for this method)
=> Go here to sign up at WordPress.com
STEP 2: Create Gravatar Account
We’re going to use a free service called ‘Gravatar’
So, the first thing we need to do is create an account.
You can do that by visiting Gravatar.com and click on ‘Create Your Own Gravatar’
Once you’ve signed up click on ‘Profile’ and fill that in.
So, since I’ve already got one done, I’m going to create a fun one for my neighbor who is a space pirate.
His name is Al. Al Leon. He says he’s a space engineer. Uh huh. Anyway, this is what it would look like.. (yours will have your own name or the name of your personal … unless your name is Al Leon …. 😀
Next, click on ‘Websites’ in the profile dropdown and we’ll add in our website info.
Now, we add our website info. Then, our link title name. Click ‘Save Website’ (see what that looks like below)
Now your website is in the Gravatar system and we’re ready to start driving traffic
STEP 3: Login to WordPress.com & Search For Tags
Go to WordPress.com/reader/ Make sure you are logged in.
You’ll see the search bar in the middle of the page, yeah?
Search for some keywords that are relevant to your blog.
The more targeted the keywords and blogs are, the better quality traffic you’re going to be getting.
Step 4: Like and follow related blogs
Now we’re going to like and follow 100 blogs and articles a day for 30 days.
This is going to take time, but it’s going to cost you nothing and is a great source of free traffic.
Let me show you what it looks like..
When you follow a post or blog it will say ‘Following’ in green. Do about 100 of these per day.
Next up, we also need to like those post and blogs.
See the little star. You click on that and it’s a ‘like’. When you do that it changes colors.
Once the start turns orange. We’re good to go.
It’s as simple as ‘Wash. Rinse. Repeat.’
Easy yeah? So – go and get yourself some traffic!
The only hold up might be your time – if you wanted to speed things up, so that it can keep liking and following people without having to regularly go in, click and click and click.. then check out the Traffic Zion software.
I’ve had my VA doing this method manually once I learned about it and it works really well – but now that there’s a piece of software that does it automatically for me, well… I can give her some other tasks to work on instead!
=> Here’s a link to check out the Traffic Zion software
Easy peasy! 🙂 Have you used this method before? Have you got other ways to get traffic that you’re really digging right now? Share it in the comments below!
By the way – now that we’re not building that software, I have a team of developers waiting for orders.
Well, they’re currently adding new features to some of our existing plugins – but I like to have upgrades and new development happening at the same time – keeps them (and me) on our toes.
If you have any ideas for software tools, plugins or – ANYTHING that would be useful – or even suggestions for our existing plugins… Or maybe you’d me to share some other training too? Leave suggestions in the comments below – talk with you soon!
Cool traffic method Cindy. Is there a limit or safe threshold for following and liking?
Thanks Kayol 🙂 Not that I’m aware of – I stick to 100 and haven’t had any issues at all (I have been doing this with the software for a couple of months now)
Update: NVM, found it. Apparently you can update your profile with one primary site although you can have several sites wordpress hosted or other listed on your profile. I guess that means for my other niches I’d have to register separate accounts at wordpress.com for them in order to pump traffic specifically to them using this method.
Sorry, one more question. My main site is IM/MMO of course, however I have several self-hosted wp sites managed under that in multiple niches. Is there a way to ensure the right type of targeted traffic is going to each site using this method or would it be hitting whatever your wordpress.com site is setup as first? The article wasn’t clear enough on that for me. I happen to have a wordpress.com site already setup but I very rarely use and only registered it awhile back for the gravitar feature for user profiles on my regular web hosted wordpress sites.
Hey great! Glad you got it sorted and gratz on taking action! I’m not sure I totally understand your question, so correct me if I’ve misunderstood – but I think you are on the right track. Make your main (self hosted) site the main site for that niche, then if you have related wp hosted sites, add those too (in the same niche).
If you’ve got some other niches, do the same and you’ll be able to get a lot of traffic to all of them. If you’ve got multiple sites and multiple niches, you’d really benefit from the software btw – the amount of time you’ll save is huge compared to the outlay (not just saying this to make sales … lol, the software is a HUGE timesaver)
Update: Just wanted to confirm that I logged into Gravatar (because I didn’t do the steps in order whomp whomp) anyway started filling in the info which told me to login or change to a different email address. I logged in which looks tied to wordpress.com itself.
Go the message asking if I approved of Gravatar using my wordpress.com settings so I was like heck yeah! Then Bam everything was G2G.
Sorry that wasn’t clear and the more I tried to correct myself the more it got confusing lol. Yes, multiple sites and multiple niches. My main one for IM/MMO I listed all of them under my profile (for personal brand-awareness) but last night I went and manually created separate accounts on wordpress.com and associated to each niche site with in the related niche it goes with. I didn’t setup avatars at Gravatar for all the other niches because I assumed this was automatically integrated through wordpress.com once I associated a site and the self-hosted sites (example.com not example.wordpress.com) are set as primary along with a profile image uploaded. I hope by having uploaded a profile image that that gets used as my Gravatar image? Oh well, I will login to each account and setup at Gravatar if this is not the case. Ah yes, I did check out the promotion but the software isn’t SaaS and I run off a Mac so to get it setup would require running it in a virtual environment such as VMWare, Virtualbox, or Parallels Virtual Machine 🙁 Love your products Cindy (Especially Viral Loop 2.0) and look forward to your next one. This one just isn’t the right fit for me but you have some great usual content and now I’m subscribed to your blog.
Awesome! Glad you got things working – and seriously no hard feelings at all. I’d be more offended if you bought something you didn’t actually need… lol. It’s great to hear you’re digging the products – I’ll keep bringing new training as i’m able 🙂
Do you have Google Analytics set up? Let me know how the traffic goes – I get really good results using this method.
For sure, Google Analytics is one of the first things I setup when I create a website. I plan to start my 100 per day for at least 30 days today. I’ll keep you know how it comes.
Well Day One of testing this method seems to be going well but did run into a bit of a roadblock. After 55 follows it would prompt me that something went wrong trying to follow and ask me to try again to no success, however I was able do 100+ Likes no problem. Although using software or a VA to automate tasks is must to be productive and efficient, sometimes it is best go through the “grind” and test everything before putting it on autopilot.
Good stuff! Yeah, I agree – I started doing this manually, it’s useful to go through the process so you can understand it – but when you can see it’s working, outsource it or your business is gonna take a long time to get anywhere.
Great article. This is not a widely known method. I Plan to use it ASAP as well.
Thanks for this tip.I will try it out.
My blog is self-managed wordpress site.
It is Not on wordpress.com.
To use this method, do I have to create an account on it? Do I have to blog on it?
How does this tip drive traffic to my site? If my site is not on wordpress.com, does this tip work? pls advise.
Super thanks.
Hey John! Great to see you here 🙂 Yes, you need to create a wordpress.com account – and then in step 2, click on the + Website button – check this image: https://wildfireconcepts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/Screenshot-2018-01-08-15.32.39-1024×459.png
This TOTALLY works for self hosted websites – which is one of the reasons I was so excited to share it with you.
Hi, Cindy.
One question, I create an account on Gravatar.com and add my site. I see one place to say “Verify”. Not sure if you see it. I try to verify my site with credentials but failed. Is it essential to verify my site before using your cool method?
pls advise.
john
Failed to verify? That’s a bit odd. Yes, you’ll need to verify your site for it to work the best. Maybe just shoot their support team a ticket and track down the issue – ’cause I haven’t seen that one before.
thanks, Cindy. Sounds great.
Again, thanks for great post
Hi Cindy!
Nice method and I’ve started using it.
However,
1. I’m confused as to how this method will drive traffic to my website / blog posts. Assuming that the owners of the blogs and posts (which I follow and like respectively) would themselves check out my site / posts, they won’t be the kind of search traffic / visitors who are actually in real need of the information (compared to the search traffic) and thus won’t convert well or convert at all for that matter.
2. Although I have selected the option of / provided my self-hosted WP blog during registration on Gravatar, I don’t know how that site of mine will show up or even show up at all while I follow and like posts on WordPress.com/reader. The reason being, during registration on WordPress.com, you need to create a blog (although a free one) and that’s what seems to going to appear when I follow and like blogs and posts!
Would really appreciate if you could help with clarifying these couple of things 🙂
Thanks again!
Best Regards,
CovertComm Member 🙂
Hi Cindy,
Awesome post!
However, I’m a little confused as to how does this get traffic to our site(s)?
Also, if the site owners (whose blogs and posts we follow and like) are the ones visiting our sites, they won’t be targeted search traffic and could be of no use if so.
Could you please help by providing some clarification on that?
Many Thanks & Regards,
CovertComm Member 🙂
Hey Parimal 🙂 . Thanks for dropping by the blog. The traffic you’re getting are site owners – they are targeted, because most bloggers who are creating content create it based on their own interests.
